Upcoming
Legacy, the Earlville Opera House, Earlville, NY, 2025 exhibition cycle
New York-based artist CJ Nye grew up surrounded by photography and traditional arts of the world brought home by her British mother, Susan McCartney, who, having studied under Richard Avedon, Walter Rosenblum, and Alexey Brodovitch, traveled widely for such clients as British Airways, Time, Glamour, The Economist, Caravan, and Travel and Leisure. Equally influential, Caroline’s father, Albert Nye, born in Cortland, NY, and former assistant to William Helburn, was a superb amateur photographer and master of the black and white print.
The exhibition will feature the work of all three and shows the universally relevant family relationship and the sometimes subtle, sometimes obvious, generational influence, as well as the more abstract ideas of artistic lineage. In a broader context, the work of each artist, informed by their own purposes and interests in subject and technique offer views into internal worlds, family life, larger social concerns, and the overlap between them.
